CHICAGO, IL – Police in Chicago are trying to identify the suspect behind an attempted kidnapping from earlier in September, where authorities say the unidentified male suspect tried to buy the young girl from her mother and proceeded to snatch the young victim by her hair when the mother refused the unsettling proposal.

Chicago Police say the attempted kidnapping occurred on September 8th at approximately 11:58 a.m. while the young victim was walking with her mother on the sidewalk near the intersection of West Fullerton Avenue and North Leclaire Avenue.

As the young victim was walking with her mother, an unidentified male can be seen walking past the two on obtained surveillance video, later circling back around to approach the mother in order to allegedly offer her an unspecified amount of money in exchange for him taking the young girl.

When the mother refused the illicit offer, the unidentified male snatched the young girl by her hair, resulting in the mother quickly grabbing her child and the male suspect nonchalantly walking away as though nothing had happened.

Authorities have described the suspect as a possible Hispanic male, aged anywhere between 20-to-25-years-old with red hair and a beard. At the time of the incident, authorities noted the at-large suspect was wearing a black t-shirt, a black baseball cap, and red shorts.

Back in late August, there was a similar incident that played out at a grocery store in Port Orange, Florida, where in this Florida case, authorities claim the suspect who attempted to purchase a young girl from their mother was a registered sex offender.

On August 16th, a woman identified as Lauren Benning was out grocery shopping along with her eight-year-old daughter at a Winn Dixie in Port Orange when she was approached by a man later identified as 85-year-old registered sex offender Hellmuth Kolb.

At the time, Benning was oblivious to Kolb being a sex offender and thought the initial interaction was a bit innocuous, telling a local news outlet, “He just came up, and he started making comments about how pretty she was and how good her dancing was and how he could never have children, and he wanted children.”

Benning, at the time, chalked it up to the strange man just being a bit lonely in his old age, but the mother soon realized that this sex offender had far more nefarious intentions. While Benning was with her daughter in the parking lot, she claimed Kolb “chased” her and her daughter down, asking if she’d be willing to sell her daughter $100,000.

The mother obviously declined the unsettling proposal, later contacting police about the incident, who’d later find that Kolb was a sex offender on probation for pulling the exact same back in 2018 at a Walmart in Port Orange. Kolb was eventually taken into custody on August 25th.
