Editor’s Note: As a general rule, Red Voice Media prefers to gather all information prior to making any judgements, especially in situations regarding law enforcement. While we are not necessarily condemning the officers involved in this incident, it appears as though they did not use proper control-hold techniques and escalated the situation beyond force that was reasonably necessary. That said, while the phrase “brutal beating” is used by the author, we are not condemning the actions of the officers at this time pending the release of further information.

MULBERRY, AR – Two Crawford County deputies and a Mulberry Police officer have been placed on leave and are currently under investigation after an unsettling video surfaced of the law enforcement officers appear to be brutally beating a suspect accused of threatening a convenience store clerk and allegedly hitting a deputy.

The incident reportedly occurred on August 21st at approximately 10:40 a.m. after authorities responded to a convenience store in Mulberry after an employee alleged they’d been spit at and threatened by an individual later identified as 27-year-old Randall Worcester.

When authorities confronted Worcester at the site of the incident, the arresting officers alleged that Worcester had shoved and punched the back of the head of one of the deputies.

The aforementioned is what allegedly preceded what was captured on camera by a nearby bystander who filmed as two deputies and one officer held Worcester to the ground while delivering a litany of closed-fist strikes and knees to his head and body.

One of the arresting officers involved in the incident personally doled out over a dozen closed-fist strikes to Worcester’s head and face, as well as a knee to the head and lifting up the suspect’s head and forcefully slamming it into the pavement.

The suspect did not appear to be striking the officers at that time, although he was resisting arrest and pulling his arms away from officers, while rolling his body from his stomach to his back.

Worcester was reportedly taken to an area hospital after the incident, where he was treated and later transported over to the county jail. He was booked under charges of second-degree battery, resisting arrest, refusal to submit, possessing an instrument of crime, criminal trespass, criminal mischief, terroristic threatening, and second-degree assault.

Crawford County Sheriff James Damante confirmed that the two deputies involved in the incident were suspended “pending the outcome of the investigation,” noting in his released statement that, “I hold all my employees accountable for their actions and will take appropriate measures in this matter.”

Mulberry Police followed suit, confirming the one officer involved in the incident has also been placed on leave, with the department issuing a statement that read in part, “The City of Mulberry and the Mulberry Police Department takes these investigations very seriously and holds all their officers accountable for their actions. We will take the appropriate actions at the conclusion of the investigation.”

Needless to say, the matter is not being taken lightly by officials, with the Arkansas State Police having opened a use-of-force investigation into the controversial arrest and said they’ll submit the findings of their investigation to the Crawford County prosecutor “who will determine whether the use of force by the law enforcement officers was consistent with Arkansas laws.”

Governor Asa Hutchinson also addressed the situation, saying in a statement, “I have spoken with Col. Bill Bryant of the Arkansas State Police and the local arrest incident in Crawford County will be investigated pursuant to the video evidence and the request of the prosecuting attorney.”

The identities of the three officers involved in the incident have not been made public as of this time.
